Driver Pulling Into Midwood Driveway Fatally Injured 5-Year-Old
A 49-year-old driver pulling into a Midwood driveway hit 5-year-old Yaakov Farhi, who died months later from his injuries.

Yaakov Farhi was critically injured just before 3 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2022, on East 12 Street in Midwood. Brooklyn Paper reported that a 49-year-old woman driving a 2012 BMW 750 LI sedan with Florida plates hit him while pulling into a driveway in front of 1442 E. 12th Street. Community members said the 5-year-old was sitting in a neighbor's driveway and the driver did not see him. Hatzolah volunteers took him to Maimonides Medical Center; he died almost four months later. The city crash record lists one pedestrian killed, no other injuries, and a southbound sedan making a right turn.
A driver's driveway turn critically injured a child
The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2022. Brooklyn Paper, citing police, reported that a 49-year-old woman driving a 2012 BMW 750 LI sedan with Florida plates hit 5-year-old Yaakov Farhi while pulling into a Midwood driveway.
The city crash record lists one pedestrian killed, no other injuries, and a driver traveling south in a sedan and making a right turn, with impact and damage recorded at the right front bumper.
A Midwood residential driveway
The city crash record places the death on East 12 Street and marks the pedestrian location away from an intersection and outside the roadway. Brooklyn Paper reported that officers found Yaakov in critical condition in front of 1442 E. 12th Street, a few houses from where he lived.
Community members told Brooklyn Paper that Yaakov had been sitting in a neighbor's driveway when the driver pulled in and did not see him.
Yaakov Farhi died months later
Brooklyn Paper identified the child as Yaakov Farhi, 5. Volunteers with Hatzolah took him to Maimonides Medical Center, and the paper reported on May 31 that he had succumbed to his injuries the previous Sunday, almost four months after the crash.
The driver, described by the paper as a 49-year-old woman, remained at the scene.
Police investigation continued after his death
At the time of the Brooklyn Paper report, the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad was still investigating the crash.
