Two killed after driver swerved on Cross Bronx Expressway

Four people were traveling west in a gray Mitsubishi Montero Sport near Rosedale Avenue when police said the driver came upon a flatbed truck idling near the right shoulder while its operator assisted a disabled tractor-trailer. Police told the Daily News the driver swerved left, hit a Lincoln MKX in the center lane, and then hit the flatbed truck. The city crash record lists unsafe speed, two motorists killed, and two motorists injured. The 33-year-old driver died at St. Barnabas Hospital, and 47-year-old front-seat passenger Stephen Williams died at the scene.
Police described a westbound swerve and two impacts
Police said the Mitsubishi driver swerved left to avoid the flatbed truck, hit a Lincoln MKX in the center lane, and then hit the idling flatbed truck after the first impact sent the Mitsubishi back toward the right lane.

Two people in the Mitsubishi died, and two back-seat passengers survived
The 33-year-old woman driving the Mitsubishi was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released in the Daily News report.
Stephen Williams, a 47-year-old Bronx resident seated in the front passenger seat, was trapped in the mangled Mitsubishi and died at the scene, police told the Daily News.
A teenage girl and a 32-year-old woman in the back seat were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. Police said occupants of the other vehicles were not injured.
