A woman driving a 2017 Mercedes sedan south on Cross Island Parkway crashed at about 3:15 a.m. The sedan was demolished and the rear seating area collapsed. According to the police report, a 24-year-old woman lying across the middle rear seat died of crush injuries to her entire body. Police recorded unsafe speed as a contributing factor.
