Garbage truck driver kills cyclist on 9th Avenue

A truck driver followed a man on a bike down 9th Avenue and hit him. His helmet cracked, his head took the blow, and the garbage truck rolled on with no damage. The 35-year-old cyclist died in the street.

What We Know

A 35-year-old man riding a bike south on 9th Avenue was killed when a garbage truck driver, also heading south, hit him on a clear Thursday morning. According to the police report, the cyclist wore a helmet, was ejected, and suffered fatal head and crush injuries. The 2008 garbage truck, an oversized vehicle, showed no recorded damage. The truck’s driver, a 62-year-old man with a valid license, was not reported injured.
