Left‑Turn Driver Runs Light, Kills Woman on Midtown Sidewalk

A driver in an SUV blew a left turn at West 29th and Broadway and hit women standing on the sidewalk. One pedestrian, 48, died from crush injuries. A 32-year-old lost part of her leg. A 50-year-old bike rider was also hurt.

According to the police report, a 60-year-old driver in an SUV turned left off West 29th Street near Broadway and disregarded a traffic signal. The driver hit women who were standing on the sidewalk. One 48-year-old pedestrian died from crush injuries. A 32-year-old pedestrian was rendered unconscious and suffered an amputation to the hip and upper leg. Another 32-year-old pedestrian sustained contusions. A 50-year-old bicyclist nearby sustained a fractured upper arm. Police recorded traffic control disregarded by the driver.
