How the crash unfolded
Prosecutors said Josie drove a Hyundai Elantra west on Lexington Avenue, ran a red light at Throop Avenue and traveled faster than 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. He struck Lewis in the intersection and left without stopping; surveillance video captured him driving away, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said.
Shore News Network reported that NYPD investigators determined Lewis was traveling north on Throop Avenue. Police responding to a 911 call found her in the roadway with severe injuries, the outlet reported.

The official crash record lists the vehicle linked to Lewis as an e-bike. Patch describes an electric scooter, Shore News Network a motorized scooter, and the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office calls it a motorized scooter in its opening account and a moped in its detailed account.
The official record lists the other vehicle as a 2013 sedan, while prosecutors identified Josie's car as a Hyundai Elantra.
A guilty plea and prison sentence
Josie was arrested on April 18, 2023, and pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on February 24, 2025, the District Attorney's Office said. Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Christopher Robles sentenced him to four to 12 years in prison, according to the office's release.
