Police said a woman driving a white Jeep hit a cyclist at Metcalf Avenue and East 172nd Street in the Bronx at 2:57 p.m. on July 3, 2022, and left the scene; the city record counts one cyclist killed.

Police and news reports placed the crash at Metcalf Avenue and East 172nd Street in the Bronx's Soundview section. Norwood News said the cyclist was traveling north on Metcalf Avenue.
Reports differ on the Jeep's movement.
The official record lists the westbound Jeep as going straight. A preliminary police account reported by Norwood News instead described a white 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling west and making a left turn as it approached the intersection. Police said the cyclist was ejected on impact.
The same preliminary account said the driver continued forward after the impact and hit two parked, unoccupied vehicles: a 2021 Hyundai Tucson and a 2000 Honda Accord.
Christian Castelan was 21.
Police identified the cyclist as Christian Castelan, 21, of Noble Avenue in Soundview. They said EMS took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
Police announced an arrest in February 2024.
Police said Jetsy Rodriguez, 28, of Haviland Avenue in Unionport, was arrested on February 22, 2024, and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Norwood News reported she is presumed innocent unless convicted.
