The collision and the falling pole
Around 2 p.m. on October 14, 2022, a Mercedes driver heading west on Avenue L and an electric scooter rider heading north on East 17th Street collided at the intersection. Afterward, a light pole fell on the rider. Emergency workers tried to save him, but he died.
