YiJie Ye was working and supporting three children
Relatives and officials described Ye as a Chinese immigrant, delivery worker and single father of three. NBC News reported that lawmakers were seeking a visa for his mother, ShuiYing Jiang, so she could travel from China for his funeral and spend time with his children.
A relative, Mike Chen, told NBC News that Ye had plans for his children: "He had a lot of big plans for his kids, like going to college and be able to support themselves and make great contributions to society. But right now, everything just shattered."
Prosecutors charged Sor with murder and attempted murder
The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said Sor was arraigned on a 25-count indictment charging him with second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault. The office said the indictment accused him of intentionally driving into civilians and injuring police officers; it also noted that an indictment is not proof of guilt.
ABC7 reported that Sor pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.
