An 18-year-old driver, speeding on the Major Deegan, lost control while merging and crashed. Police recorded unsafe speed and alcohol. Four people rode in the Honda; the unbelted teenager at the wheel was partially ejected and killed overnight.

What We Know

According to the police report, an 18-year-old licensed driver in a 2017 Honda sedan was merging northeast on the Major Deegan Expressway around 1:53 a.m. when he crashed at unsafe speed. Police recorded unsafe speed and alcohol involvement as factors. Four people were inside the car. The unbelted driver was partially ejected, suffered a fatal head injury and died at the scene.
