Permit-Only Rider Turns, Teen Passenger Dies
On Cross Island Parkway just after midnight, a 17-year-old girl riding on the outside of a Honda motorcycle was thrown and killed when the permit-only driver turned left at unsafe speed. Police cited driver inexperience and speed; she never had a chance.

A 17-year-old girl riding on the outside of a 2002 Honda motorcycle on Cross Island Parkway just after midnight was killed when the driver turned left and she was ejected. According to the police report, the male driver held only a permit. Police recorded driver inexperience and unsafe speed as contributing factors. The girl, listed as a helmeted passenger, suffered fatal head and skeletal injuries.
