A 26-year-old moped driver was killed at East 170th Street and Jerome Avenue after police said he stole a running moped, skidded on a damp roadway and collided with a dump truck and bus.

Police said the ride began with a stolen moped

The Daily News, citing police, reported that a man got on a 2022 Zhongneng G150 that a 48-year-old man had left running outside his home near Findlay Avenue and East 170th Street around 9 a.m. He traveled west along East 170th Street for about eight blocks.

Near Jerome Avenue, police said, the rider skidded on a damp roadway and collided with a dump truck. He was thrown and landed on the asphalt under a 2019 Nova LFS bus that was waiting at a traffic light.

The Daily News reported that a 42-year-old bus driver and a 41-year-old dump truck driver remained at the scene.

The official vehicle entries list the moped driver and the dump truck driver as unlicensed; the bus driver is listed as licensed in New York.

No immediate charges were reported

The Daily News reported the day after the crash that no criminal charges were immediately filed.
