SUV Driver Charged With Manslaughter in Bronx Moped Rider's Death

Kadeem Davis, 32, died after an Aug. 21, 2023, crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway service road. Prosecutors say Brehisly Jimenez Gonzalez pursued Davis after a dispute and struck the rear of his moped. Davis then went into a curb and was thrown into a light pole. Police had earlier said Gonzalez never struck the moped; prosecutors later alleged that he did. Police stopped Gonzalez after he left the scene, and prosecutors charged him with manslaughter, assault, reckless driving and leaving the scene. Friends remembered Davis as a generous father.
The pursuit and fatal crash
Prosecutors say Gonzalez pursued Davis after a dispute and struck the rear of Davis's 2023 JiaJue moped while driving a 2004 Honda Pilot. Davis then went into a curb and was thrown into a light pole. Medics took him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died.
Police had told reporters the previous day that Gonzalez never struck the moped. The later criminal complaint alleged that he did.

The city record places the crash at Cross Bronx Service Road N and Olmstead Avenue at 2:09 p.m. Press accounts place Davis's turn near Gleason Avenue at about 2:15 p.m. The records differ on the cross street and precise time.
Remembering Kadeem Davis
Davis was one of six siblings. His high school friend Schuchanna Adlam described him as easygoing and generous and said, "He was a great father who lived for his kids. Loved them out of this world."
An arrest and manslaughter charge
Police stopped Gonzalez a short distance away after he left the scene. Prosecutors charged him with manslaughter, assault, reckless driving and leaving the scene. The city crash record assigns unsafe speed and aggressive driving or road rage to the SUV driver.
