A 42-year-old unlicensed Mercedes driver sped up Gerritsen Avenue and hit a garbage truck mid U-turn near Florence Avenue. He died from head injuries in the driver’s seat while the truck crew survived the overnight impact.

What We Know

According to the police report, a 42-year-old unlicensed man driving a Mercedes north on Gerritsen Avenue hit the rear side of a southbound garbage truck making a U-turn near Florence Avenue just after midnight. Police recorded unsafe speed and alcohol involvement. The driver, alone in the car and not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal head injuries. The licensed garbage truck driver and passenger in the oversized truck were not reported injured.
