The crash happened at about 5:58 a.m. on March 7, 2024, at Bedford Avenue and Tilden Avenue in Brooklyn. The official record says a 58-year-old woman was crossing with the signal at the intersection when a driver in a southbound dump truck was making a right turn. She was killed, and no other injuries were recorded.
News 12 identified the woman as Maria Piovanetti and reported that surveillance video showed her entering the crosswalk as the dump truck slowed, followed by a right turn before she cleared the truck’s path.

Police linked the same truck to an earlier fatal incident
The official record lists one male driver in a 2014 KW dump truck, with the truck traveling south and the driver making a right turn. The crash record cites failure to yield; the vehicle record also lists an oversized vehicle factor.
CBS New York and News 12 reported that police said the dump truck involved in Piovanetti’s death was the same truck from another fatal pedestrian incident in October. CBS reported that police said the March driver was not the same driver from the earlier case.

News 12 reported that police had not made any arrests and said the investigation was ongoing. CBS New York reported that a man who answered a call to Manolos Trucking described it as “a sad situation” and said he had no comment.
