Police found two teens hurt near noon

The crash was recorded at about 12:08 p.m. on May 28, 2024, at University Avenue and West 192nd Street in the Bronx. Police said officers found Daphne Juan and the moped rider unconscious and unresponsive with severe head and body trauma.

Juan, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene. The rider was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

Daphne Juan was a rear passenger

The official record lists the person who died as a 15-year-old female passenger seated at the left rear of the moped. Gothamist identified her as Daphne Juan.

News accounts differed on the rider's age and condition. The Post described him as a 19-year-old man in critical condition; Gothamist described him as an 18-year-old who was later listed in stable condition.

The Honda driver stayed at the scene

Police told reporters the 22-year-old Honda driver stayed at the scene and was not injured. The Post reported that he was not facing charges as of Tuesday afternoon.
