BMW Driver Charged After 75-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Bronx
Police said Rafael Delgado hit 75-year-old Wahid Miah while making a left turn at White Plains Road and Wood Avenue, where the official record says Miah was crossing with the signal.

A left turn at a Bronx intersection
The crash happened at about 1:22 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2025, at White Plains Road and Wood Avenue in the Bronx. The official record identifies Miah as a 75-year-old pedestrian who was crossing with the signal at the intersection.
Police told the Daily News that Delgado was making a left turn in a 2023 BMW SUV to head south on White Plains Road when he hit Miah, who had the right of way.

Miah was close to home
The Daily News reported that Miah was walking home from mosque and was less than half a mile from home when Delgado hit him. Medics took him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died.
A neighbor, Shameem Ahmed, told News 12 The Bronx that the community was shocked and had gone to Miah’s home to offer sympathy to his family.
Police and the crash record point to failure to yield
The official crash record lists failure to yield right-of-way as a contributing factor and says the BMW SUV’s driver was making a left turn. The vehicle record also lists driver inattention or distraction.
Police later charged Delgado with reckless endangerment, failure to yield and failure to exercise due care. He remained at the scene and was not initially charged, the Daily News reported.
