Teen rider dies in collision with Audi driver in Hollis

QNS reported on April 17 that police had made no arrests and were still investigating.
The collision and emergency response
Police said Wood was traveling south and the 63-year-old woman driving a 2012 Audi was traveling north on 188th Street when they collided. Officers found Wood on the roadway with head and body injuries. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene and took the driver, who had minor injuries, to NYC Health and Hospitals/Queens, where she was in stable condition.
On 188th Street in Hollis
The crash happened at 188th Street and 90th Avenue in Hollis, Queens. Wood lived on 188th Street near 69th Avenue in Fresh Meadows, a little more than a mile and a half north of the crash scene.
Bereket Wood and his family
Wood was 19. His friend Kayla Rae G said he had come to New York City from Ethiopia as a young child. She started a fundraiser to help his family pay for his funeral.
Different descriptions of Wood's ride
The city crash record identifies Wood's 2023 Fengyuan as a motorbike in one vehicle entry and a moped in another entry for the same vehicle. Police described it to QNS as a 2023 Fengyuan Roma moped. The city record identifies the other driver's 2012 Audi as a station wagon or SUV.
Police investigation
QNS reported on April 17 that police had made no arrests and that the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad was still investigating.
