Truck Driver Fails To Yield, Tears Through Moped Rider on Flushing

A garbage truck driver turned right off Flushing Avenue and hit a moped rider going straight. The rider, ejected and left unconscious with severe lacerations, took the full force of the oversized truck’s bad turn.

What We Know

A 26-year-old garbage truck driver turned right from Flushing Avenue onto Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn and hit a westbound moped rider who was traveling straight. According to the police report, the moped rider was ejected, left unconscious, and suffered severe lacerations over the entire body. Police recorded failure to yield right-of-way. The moped rider was riding or hanging on the outside of the vehicle and was unlicensed. The crash occurred on a morning in daylight involving an oversized truck.
