Hit-and-run driver kills pedestrian on East 222nd Street

A midnight crossing ended in a fatal hit-and-run

Police told multiple outlets that Bryant was crossing East 222nd Street mid-block when a driver in a 2025 BMW M8, traveling east, hit him. The driver then continued east and hit a telephone pole before running from the scene, according to those police accounts.
Bryant was taken to Jacobi, where he died
Medics took Bryant to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police accounts reported by the Daily News, ABC7, Gothamist and Norwood News. The official record lists him as a 27-year-old male pedestrian.
A 28-year-old front-seat passenger in the BMW suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized, according to police accounts reported by multiple outlets.
The crash happened on a Bronx corridor with a heavy crash toll

Local business owners told ABC7 that the intersection is no stranger to speeding and violent crashes, and ABC7 reported that police were pulling over numerous drivers for speeding there on the Monday after Bryant was killed.
Police were still searching for the driver
The Daily News, ABC7, Gothamist, the Post and Norwood News all reported that the driver left the scene. ABC7 and Gothamist reported that no arrests had been made as of Dec. 8, and Norwood News reported that the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad was investigating.
ABC7 described the case as involving a suspected speeding hit-and-run driver. News 12 reported that surveillance video captured speeding on East 222nd Street before Bryant was hit.
A memorial grew near the corner
Gothamist and the Post cited an online fundraiser that described Bryant as a warm, caring and deeply loving person. News 12 reported that friends remembered him as genuine, kind and the life of the party.
