Shortly after midnight on Dec. 6, 2025, a driver heading east on East 222nd Street in a 2025 BMW M8 hit Shariq Bryant as he crossed midblock near Boston Road. The driver continued to a telephone pole and fled on foot, leaving a passenger behind, police said. Bryant, 27, died at Jacobi Medical Center. His cousin said Bryant, an IT technician, had returned to his old Bronx neighborhood for a family friend's party. Friends and loved ones gathered at a memorial near the scene.
The driver left after the collision
Police said the driver was heading east on East 222nd Street in a 2025 BMW M8 when they hit Bryant as he crossed midblock shortly after midnight. The driver continued east, hit a telephone pole at Boston Road and ran away on foot, leaving a front-seat passenger behind.
Medics took Bryant to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died. He was 27.

Bryant was crossing East 222nd Street midblock near Boston Road in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx. Police said the driver later hit a telephone pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The crossing was outside Triple Deuce, a bar-restaurant where Bryant had been visiting friends that night. Local business owners told ABC7 that speeding and serious crashes had been a concern at the intersection.
Bryant had returned to his old neighborhood
Bryant's cousin Dornell Joseph said Bryant had moved to Stamford, Connecticut, years earlier and was back for a party for an old family friend. An earlier police account described Bryant as a Williamsbridge resident. Joseph said Bryant worked in IT and hoped to support his whole family.
Bryant's mother, Kerryann Stephens, said he cared for one of his younger brothers. She urged the driver to come forward and said, "I forgive you." Family friend Taniyah Montgomery remembered Bryant's "crazy infectious laugh."
A memorial grew as police searched for the driver
By Monday, friends and loved ones had left flowers, candles and teddy bears near the scene. ABC7 reported that Bryant's girlfriend was tending the memorial.
Police accounts said the 28-year-old front-seat passenger had minor injuries and was not hospitalized, while the official crash record counts no injured people. As of Dec. 8, police had announced no arrests and the investigation was continuing.
