Driver Charged After Cyclist Is Killed in Queens

A right turn at Sanford Avenue
The city crash record says the crash happened at 10:02 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2026, at Sanford Avenue and 160th Street in Queens. It lists a pickup truck making a right turn and a bicyclist going straight ahead, with one cyclist killed and no other injuries recorded.
The Daily News, citing police, reported that Xi Zheng was riding west on Sanford Avenue when Quinn Daly, 23, turned right from 160th Street onto Sanford Avenue in a Ford F-150 and hit him. Zheng was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, where he was pronounced dead.

Relatives told the Daily News that Zheng was on his way to work and regularly commuted by bicycle. His nephew Jacky Huang said Zheng “always biked to work.” Another nephew, Hui Huang, described him as a “good guy” and a family man who left a son and a daughter.
Police filed a misdemeanor charge months later
The Daily News first reported that Daly stayed at the scene and that police had not filed criminal charges immediately after the crash. In May, the paper reported that police arrested Daly on a misdemeanor charge of failure to yield to a pedestrian, which the article said carried a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
Zheng’s relatives told the Daily News they wanted justice and were upset by the charge. Hui Huang said the family was “extremely distraught” and called the penalty light for what happened.
