The Daily News and News12, citing police, said Nadim grabbed the driver's-side door after an initial collision, held on as the driver continued north, then fell and was struck. Their accounts differ on the route: the Daily News says Clinton Street; News12 says Cadman Plaza West. Jang described a different initial encounter, saying a driver hit Nadim's parked car, then Nadim approached the driver at a traffic light before falling as the driver accelerated. Reports agree Nadim fell, but differ on how events began.

The Daily News and News12, citing police, reported that Nadim grabbed the driver's-side door after an initial collision and held on as the driver continued north. The Daily News described travel on Clinton Street toward Cadman Plaza; News12 described northbound travel on Cadman Plaza West. Both accounts say Nadim fell and was struck after traveling about 600 feet.
Jang gave a different account of the first contact: it reported that a driver in a truck hit Nadim's parked car, then Nadim approached the driver at a traffic light to request details. In that account, Nadim fell beneath the truck's wheels when the driver accelerated.
The Daily News and News12 report that medics took Nadim to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he died about a week later.

The official record describes a box truck traveling north and going straight. The Daily News identified it as a 2019 Freightliner box truck. News12 reported that police identified Pimentel as the alleged driver.
