Streetsblog reported that the ambulance driver was turning onto Willoughby Street. The city crash record instead lists both drivers as going straight. The record identifies the rider's Fly vehicle as a motorcycle, which Streetsblog said the Department of Transportation later confirmed; the Daily News described it as an e-bike.
The collision happened near Willoughby Street in Fort Greene.
The crash took place on Ashland Place near Willoughby Street in Brooklyn. Streetsblog reported that snowbanks had narrowed Ashland Place and left its bike lane only partly passable; its account did not establish that those conditions caused the collision.
The rider's family said he had been heading home.
The Daily News identified the 65-year-old rider as Lynwood Wilkerson. Other reports gave his name as Ray Wilkerson Lynwood or Ray Wilkerson-Lynwood.
Calvin Wilkerson told the Daily News that his uncle was returning home after visiting him less than four blocks from the crash.
Medics took the rider to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
The rider died at the hospital. Police said the 21-year-old ambulance driver and two crew members, a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were also taken to hospitals. Streetsblog described the crew as lightly injured, while NYU Langone said its crew suffered no injuries. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
