Press accounts identified the rider

Norwood News identified the deceased as Ronald Vasquez Herrera, 29, of Mount Hope; News 12 identified him as Ronald Vasquez-Herrera, 29, of Mount Hope. City crash records list the killed motorcycle driver as 28.

Both articles said EMS took the rider to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, where he died.

Investigators focused on the left turn

City records listed turning improperly as a contributing factor for the crash and, for the Toyota driver, failure to yield right-of-way. Police later charged Shantilou with making an improper left turn.

The arrest came more than two months later

Police said Shantilou, of Wakefield, was arrested on June 12 in the 47th Precinct. The articles reported charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving or having no license, and making an improper left turn.
