Bus Driver Sideswiped Sedan Before Fatal LIE Rollover
A 35-year-old coach bus driver carrying a JFK Airport flight crew sideswiped a Honda Accord near Exit 16 on the Long Island Expressway, police told the Daily News, before a rollover that left him and passenger Moad Farid Mohd Obaidat dead.

Police told the Daily News that a 35-year-old coach bus driver was carrying a JFK Airport flight crew west on the Long Island Expressway in Sunnyside late Monday when he sideswiped a Honda Accord near Exit 16 at Greenpoint Avenue. The force of the crash sent the coach bus over the median into the eastbound lanes, where two more vehicles became involved. The bus driver and Moad Farid Mohd Obaidat, 42, a Royal Jordanian Airlines employee, died at the scene. Medics took 19 other people to hospitals, including other bus passengers and the drivers of the four other vehicles involved.
A westbound trip turned into a multi-vehicle crash
Police said the coach bus driver was heading west on an elevated stretch of the Long Island Expressway near Exit 16 at Greenpoint Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Monday when he sideswiped a Honda Accord.
The Daily News reported that the Honda was then involved in another collision, and the force of the crash sent the coach bus over the median into the eastbound lanes, where two more vehicles became involved.
Two people died and 19 others were hurt
Medics took the other bus passengers and the drivers of the four other vehicles to area hospitals. At least one eastbound driver remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, while the other patients were expected to recover.
The crash spread across the expressway median in Sunnyside
The crash happened on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 16 at Greenpoint Avenue, on an elevated stretch beside Calvary Cemetery in Sunnyside, Queens.
Police described a sequence that began in the westbound lanes and then crossed the median into eastbound traffic, expanding the crash from the coach bus and Honda to additional drivers on the opposite side of the highway.
