Police said David Rivera, 49, of Marlboro in Ulster County, was riding a Suzuki GSX-R750 eastbound on the right shoulder of the Long Island Expressway outer roadway ramp in Maspeth on Aug. 8. Investigators said Rivera hit a metal sewer grate, lost control and collided with a barrier wall, sustaining head trauma. Officers responding to a 911 call found him on the roadway east of 69th Street, and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said there had been no arrests and the investigation remained ongoing.

Police from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call for a collision on the eastbound Long Island Expressway outer roadway ramp, east of 69th Street, where they found Rivera lying on the roadway with a serious head injury.
The rider was identified as David Rivera
The NYPD identified the rider as David Rivera, 49, of Athboy Drive in Marlboro, an Ulster County town south of Poughkeepsie.
EMS pronounced Rivera dead at the scene
EMS responded to the crash location and pronounced Rivera dead at the scene. Police said there had been no arrests, and the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad continued to investigate.
