Senior dies after bus-stop collision in Elmhurst

Wayne Silverman, 70, died after a collision involving an MTA Q52 bus at an Elmhurst bus stop, where QNS reported he had been waiting near Hoffman Park.

QNS reported that police responded just before 2 p.m. to Hoffman Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard in Elmhurst, where Wayne Silverman was found in the roadway after a collision involving an MTA Q52 bus. EMS took him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died a short time later. Investigators said Silverman had been seated on a rollator walker at the bus stop and lost his balance as an MTA Q52 articulated bus was arriving. Police said the Q52 driver remained at the scene, no arrests had been made, and no criminality was suspected while the investigation continued.

QNS reported that police from the 110th Precinct responded just before 2 p.m. to Hoffman Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard, where they found Wayne Silverman lying in the roadway after a collision involving an MTA Q52 bus. EMS took him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as Wayne Silverman, 70, of Middle Village. QNS reported that he lived on 80th Street, about a mile from the crash scene.

The crash happened by Hoffman Park and Queens Center

QNS placed the crash at a bus stop in front of Hoffman Park, at Hoffman Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard in Elmhurst. The stop is south of the Queens Center mall and north of the Long Island Expressway.

Police described the sequence as the bus was arriving

QNS reported that the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined Silverman had been sitting on his rollator walker at the bus stop and lost his balance as an MTA Q52 articulated bus was arriving.

The driver stayed, and the investigation continued

Police said the Q52 driver remained at the scene, no arrests had been made, and no criminality was suspected, QNS reported. Council Member Robert Holden called the death a heartbreaking tragedy and said he would follow the NYPD investigation and review whether additional safety measures were needed at the intersection.
