Streetsblog reported that Paulina Tec Choc, 29, was riding her e-bike to work early Tuesday on Jamaica Avenue in Brooklyn when a driver in a white pickup hit her from behind at Cypress Hills Street. Police said she had been riding westbound and was stopped at about 5:45 a.m. when the westbound driver hit her, ran over her after the impact, and fled north on Cypress Hills Street. Her manager told Streetsblog she was a daily e-bike commuter who regularly used the route to reach a nearby Sonic Drive-In, and that her street-legal e-bike had a top speed of 25 mph.

Police described a rear-end hit-and-run

An NYPD spokesperson told Streetsblog that Tec Choc was riding westbound and had stopped on Jamaica Avenue at Cypress Hills Street around 5:45 a.m. when a westbound driver in a white pickup hit her from behind.

Police said the impact threw Tec Choc before the driver ran over her and fled north on Cypress Hills Street.

Tec Choc was commuting to work by e-bike

Streetsblog identified the rider as Paulina Tec Choc, 29. Her manager said she rode her e-bike daily on the street to get to her job at a nearby Sonic Drive-In.

The manager also told Streetsblog that Tec Choc’s e-bike was street-legal and had a top speed of 25 mph.

The crash happened where protected space drops away

The crash was reported at Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street in Brooklyn. Streetsblog noted that Cypress Hills Street has a mostly protected bike lane north of Jamaica Avenue, while the other streets that converge at the crash location do not.
