SUV Driver Fatally Hits Wahid Miah at Bronx Intersection

Police said a 60-year-old man driving a 2023 BMW X5 was headed west on Wood Avenue at about 1:23 p.m. Monday when he turned left onto southbound White Plains Road and hit Wahid Miah, 75, as Miah crossed the intersection. EMS took Miah, who lived on St. Lawrence Avenue, to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead. The driver remained at the scene, and police said no charges had been filed while the investigation continued.

Police said the fatal collision happened at about 1:23 p.m. at Wood Avenue and White Plains Road in the Bronx. A 60-year-old man driving a 2023 BMW X5 was traveling west on Wood Avenue and attempted to turn left onto southbound White Plains Road when he hit Wahid Miah as Miah crossed the intersection.
Wahid Miah died after being taken to Jacobi
Emergency Medical Services took Miah, a 75-year-old St. Lawrence Avenue resident, to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver remained at the scene. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, and investigators had not disclosed whether speed or other factors contributed to the crash.
