A 36-year-old dump truck driver struck a woman cycling west on West 34th Street near Seventh Avenue on Sept. 28, 2026, then continued west without stopping; EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, according to reports quoting police.

Police accounts reported by West Side Spirit say a 36-year-old man driving a dump truck west on West 34th Street struck a woman cycling in the same direction toward Seventh Avenue on Sept. 28, 2026. The driver continued west without stopping, and EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The New York Post reported that she was making a delivery on a JOCO rental e-bike. Police later found and questioned the driver; the Post reported no charges by late afternoon, and the investigation remained ongoing.

West Side Spirit quoted police as saying a 36-year-old man was driving a dump truck west toward Seventh Avenue when he struck a woman cycling west in the same direction. The driver continued west and did not remain at the scene. EMS pronounced the woman dead there.

The New York Post placed the collision at about 10:50 a.m.; Streetsblog reported 10:51 a.m. The police statement quoted by West Side Spirit said officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 10:51 a.m. on Sept. 28, 2026.

The woman was making a delivery.

The New York Post reported that the woman was making a delivery on a JOCO rental e-bike. Angel Suarez, a witness quoted by Streetsblog, said she was a delivery worker carrying a full bag as she headed out for a run.

Reports differed on her age: the Post and West Side Spirit reported 50, while Streetsblog said police later identified her as 51.

The collision happened near Seventh Avenue.

Reports place the crash on West 34th Street approaching Seventh Avenue in Midtown. The Post located it in front of Primark and near Macy's; Streetsblog described it as near Macy's and across from Primark; West Side Spirit placed it near Penn Station.

Streetsblog reported that 34th Street had no bike lane and cited Transportation Alternatives' description of the road as a Vision Zero Priority Corridor since 2015.

Police found and questioned the driver.

Streetsblog reported that police found the dump truck hours later on West 35th Street near Fifth Avenue and interviewed the driver. The New York Post said police confirmed the driver had been found and questioned, with no charges by late afternoon. West Side Spirit reported that the NYPD investigation was ongoing. Streetsblog quoted an officer as saying the driver claimed he did not know he had hit anyone.
