   Carlos Astimbay, 50, a Jamaica livery driver and father of two, died before dawn on the westbound LIE in a crash involving his Toyota sedan and a tractor-trailer; official crash records cited slippery pavement.
   Carlos Astimbay, a 50-year-old Jamaica man and livery driver, was traveling west on the Long Island Expressway before dawn on Feb. 6, 2026.    A pickup driver changed lanes on the Van Wyck Expressway and crashed into a truck. Three people in the pickup reported back crush injuries, including a 30-year-old rear-seat passenger.
   According to the police report, the crash happened at 11:06 a.m. on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens when a pickup driver merging made an unsafe lane change and hit a truck driver going straight. A 30-year-old man riding in the pickup’s right rear seat and a 35-year-old woman in the front passenger seat were injured with back “crush injuries,” as was the 32-year-old pickup driver.

   Late Tuesday night on the Grand Central Parkway, a driver hit a parked sedan. A 23-year-old driver was trapped and unconscious with head crush injuries.
   According to the police report, the crash happened at 11:32 p.m. on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens. Police recorded “Other Vehicular” as the contributing factor. Two sedan drivers were hurt: a 70-year-old driver reported chest pain or nausea, and a 23-year-old driver was trapped and unconscious with head crush injuries.
