How were these numbers calculated?

We used NYC’s Motor Vehicle Collisions datasets — Crashes (h9gi-nx95), Persons (f55k-p6yu), and Vehicles (bm4k-52h4) — filtered to the period 2022-01-01 through 2025-09-27 and to Senate District 20. We counted deaths, injuries, and serious injuries from the Persons table and matched locations to the Crashes table. Data were extracted on Sept 26, 2025. You can view the source datasets [here](https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Public-Safety/Motor-Vehicle-Collisions-Crashes/h9gi-nx95).

Who represents this area?

Senate District 20 is represented by State Senator Zellnor Myrie. The overlapping City Council district is represented by Council Member Crystal Hudson, and the overlapping Assembly district is represented by Assembly Member Phara Souffrant Forrest.

What policies could change this pattern?

Two concrete steps are on the table: lower city speed limits under Sammy’s Law, and pass the Stop Super Speeders Act (S4045) to require speed limiters for repeat offenders. Senator Zellnor Myrie co‑sponsored S4045 but missed two committee votes in June 2025. The Assembly’s parallel bill is not documented here.

A 50-year-old driver turned left from Kingston onto Bergen and hit a 30-year-old woman crossing with the signal. Police say he failed to yield and drove too fast, leaving her with a fractured lower leg.
According to the police report, a 50-year-old New Jersey-licensed driver in a Jeep sedan turned left from Kingston Avenue onto Bergen Street around 6:05 a.m. and hit a 30-year-old woman who was crossing with the signal in the intersection. Police recorded failure to yield right-of-way and unsafe speed by the driver. The pedestrian sustained a fracture to her lower leg and was reported injured.

According to the police report, a 68-year-old driver in a Ford sedan traveling west on East New York Avenue hit a 34-year-old man who was crossing the roadway away from an intersection. Police recorded driver inattention or distraction. A 75-year-old front-seat passenger was also listed in the car.

A 42-year-old unlicensed driver lost consciousness on Fulton St at Rochester Ave and hit another SUV. A woman driving the other vehicle reported pain and nausea.

Police recorded lost consciousness and turning improperly. The Audi driver had minor bleeding and an injury to his elbow/lower arm/hand; the other driver reported pain or nausea across her body.
